Hello all,
Just a quick note to say THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us throughout this year, come to our shows, bought our records, given us a place to stay or a warm welcome. We’ve come to the end of nearly 200 shows in 2011, and we’re still standing, thanks to the warmth that you’ve given us.
Wye Oak will be staying pretty low key for the next little while as we write new material and live normal life for a change. However, we’ll still be active for some shows here and there. Two shows are already confirmed for February:
Thursday FEB 23rd @ The Troubador in Los Angeles, CA
Friday FEB 24th @ The Independed in San Francisco, CA as part of the Noise Pop Festival.
As a little holiday gift to you, we recorded this Brenda Lee Christmas classic for the AV Club:
Wye Oak covers “Christmas Will Be Just Another Lonely Day” by Brenda Lee
Thanks again for the wonderful year, and see you soon!

New dates are posted for September and October. We’ll be in the Southern US, Eastern Canada, and the Midwestern US supporting Explosions in the Sky.
More dates are on the way!
We’ll be back across the pond in June for our first ever string of headline dates. Here’s the rundown:
June 04 PARIS, FR – LA FLECHE D’OR
June 07 AMSTERDAM, NL – PARADISO
June 08 GHENT, BE – VOORUIT
June 09 HAMBURG, DE – MOLOTOW
June 10 GRONIGEN, NL – VERA

Especially excited for that Paris date at Fleche D’or, as we played there on our first ever European tour, and that show happened to fall on the exact night that Obama was elected President. Here’s hoping that we can recreate some of that excitement upon our return. Here’s an old picture of the DJ at Fleche d’or that night. Nice.
We were asked back to the Onion AV Club’s Chicago office to try our hand at the Danzig classic, “Mother.” The results are below. Rated PG-13 for moderate violence and wolf’s blood.
NPR just premiered our new music video based around a shadow puppet show designed and constructed by Baltimore’s own Katherine Fahey. Directed by Michael O’Leary. Enjoy!
Headed back for some headlining dates in Europe and the UK. First string of dates has been announced - see below. More are coming!

Dear Memphis,
Jenn’s voice is still questionable, so Wye Oak will not be performing tonight at the Lamplighter. Instead, you will see the first and only performance of SLOWER DANS, featuring members of Wye Oak, Lower Dens, Crazy Dreams Band, Lexie Mountain Boys, and Roads to Space Travel.
Lower Dens will still perform as per usual, as will Young Greys.
In a statement crafted by SLOWER DANS’ mouthpiece Squawk Nard:
“We are proud to present our starquake epic “Testicle Money” to the people of Memphis Tennessee. In this time of upheaval and calamity we felt it was important to bring our unfolding trilogy of transformation, healing and rebirth to bear in a location of critical pyramid energy focus and inward-looking reincarnativity. SLOWER DANS’ persistent unfolding and reinvention of self finds its mirror in the history and magic of Memphis and is honored to present our magnum opus on this tender night.”
Hey all, very sorry to say that we have to call off tonight’s show in Atlanta due to illness.
For those of you with presale tickets, refunds will be available from the point of purchase.
Here is a note from Jenn …
Dear ATL,
I have played shows with colds, flus, strep throat, and a sprained back. I don’t cancel shows…I hate cancelling shows…
I’ve been struggling with a cold all week. No big deal, except I suppose all the coughing and forced singing finally caught up with me and I woke up this morning with absolutely no voice at all. Despite rest and a variety of supplements and remedies of all sorts, it has not returned.
Please know that it truly kills me to have to cancel, and we will reschedule as soon as possible.
This sucks,
JW
Just announced what is probably the coolest show we’ve ever been asked to be a part of! It’s the Our Band Could Be Your Life 10th Anniversary celebration. If you don’t know the book already, it’s a seminal examination of punk and indie music in the late ’80s the wonderful Michael Azerrad. It’s May 22nd @ Bowery Ballroom, and we’ll be on hand to play the music of Dinosaur, Jr.
The current announced lineup:
Nat Baldwin, David Longstreth and Brian McOmber play Black Flag
Delicate Steve plays the Minutemen
Ted Leo plays Minor Threat
Titus Andronicus plays the Replacements
Tune-Yards plays Sonic Youth
Dan Deacon plays the Butthole Surfers
St. Vincent plays Big Black
Wye Oak plays Dinosaur Jr
Buke & Gass plays Fugazi
AND MORE INFO ABOUT THE EVENT is here at Brooklyn Vegan
Tickets on sale this Friday.
We’ve just announced a free instore performance at The Sound Garden on March 8th to celebrate the release of our new LP Civilian. The record will be on sale at the event, and we’ll be playing just a few songs from it. We’ll start around 7:30PM. It’s a free event …
Also, the wonderful Lands & Peoples have rounded out the bill with Lower Dens at the Black Cat on March 11th. Tickets are still available, but they’re going fast.
We just announced a bunch more headline shows in the Midwest and Northeast, as well as an appearance at the Sasquatch! Fest in May. Head over to the tour page, or just look down:
04/07 - Chicago IL @ Schubas
04/08 - Detroit MI @ Magic Stick
04/09 - Toronto, ON @ El Mocambo
04/10 - Montreal QC @ Casa del Popolo
04/12 - Cambridge MA @ Middle East
04/14 - New York NY @ Bowery Ballroom
05/28 - George, WA @ Sasquatch! Music Festival
Whoever thought it was a good idea to tour the Northeast in the dead of winter was clearly wrong. We’ve been getting pummeled with snow at just about every stop, and our show tonight in Detroit is the first casualty. It’s cancelled. Or, technically, it’s rescheduled until April. But that will be without us - just the Decemberists.
But on the upside, we’ll be back in Detroit to headline our own show this spring! More to come on that front.
Also in the news, we’re headed back to Europe very soon. Like in a week. We’ll be doing two weeks of shows with the Cold War Kids, and also our first ever headlining show in the UK @ Monto Water Rats in London.
Hooray for endless tour!
We just announced a new record last week. It’s called “Civilian,” and it’s being released in early March of 2011. Merge Records will take care of it in the US and City Slang in Europe and the UK. We’re working on Australia and Japan too, I’m very excited to say. The title track for the record is floating around the internet in MP3 form, so go have a listen.
In related news, we’re gearing up for an absurd amount of touring in 2011. Some of the dates have already been announced, including about 10 shows in the Northeast with The Decemberists, a short jaunt over to the UK and Europe in January, and a big ol’ headling tour all over the United States, by way of the SXSW festival.
Many thanks to all of the wonderful people who we shared good times with in 2010. Happy holidays.
x, A ( & J )
